Meet our Board.

Bruce Walker

Executive Chairman

Bruce joined ME Group as Executive Chairman in July 2020 with responsibility for the credit functions of the business, including chairing the Credit Committee. Bruce is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years experience, a London School of Economics alumnus, and he trained and qualified with PwC. Much of his career has been spent as CFO of privately owned companies, backed by a variety of funders, including private equity. He was part of the buy-out team at Nelson, the wealth management group, funded to a very successful exit by Barclays Capital.

Rob Cooper

Chief Executive Officer

Rob is an expert in financial services regulation and business automation through cloud-based platforms. Rob is also Chief Executive Officer of Forbes Ventures, a FinTech focused NEX listed investment vehicle, as well as having led numerous successful start-ups in the financial and technology sectors.

A former Trading Standards Officer, he previously worked with the then Department for Business Innovation and Skills consulting on Better Regulation. Whilst with Trading Standards he worked with the Office of Fair Trading on the delivery of Consumer Direct (the government’s national consumer helpline). His last role in the public sector was as part of the management team implementing the regulation of the claims management industry, after which he founded Scott Robert an advisory business to the financial services industry on governance, risk and compliance.

Michael Kelleher

Chief Financial Officer

Experienced finance executive, Michael Kelleher, joined the ME Group Board in early 2022 and brings with him many years of experience within the financial services sector.

Previously the financial and commercial lead at a consumer litigation funding firm, he is operationally and commercially knowledgeable across the sector, with a focus on start-up and scaling growth companies.

At ME Group, he has overall charge for the strategic financial management of the Group, and the treasury responsibilities of the litigation funding function.

Jo Sharp

Chief Operating Officer

Joanne joined ME Group in March 2019 and has over 20 years’ experience of working within the financial services sector including for the Cheshire Building Society.

She has managed both operational and project teams and is PRINCE 2 qualified. Joanne has supported the transitional management and delivery of new products, regulatory change, and is vastly experienced in using technology to improve customer experience and operational efficiency.

Rob Cottingham

Chief Credit Officer

Rob joined ME Group as Chief Credit Officer in September 2020.

His responsibilities include leading on the quality of the loan portfolio; establishing and developing credit strategies, policies and objectives to manage risk within the company’s risk appetite for lending; developing risk management and decisioning models, automation and analytics; ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and acting as principal spokesperson for the credit function.

Rob is a Chartered Banker; Member of the Institute of Credit Management and has over 30 years national and international credit and risk leadership experience including building out first and second lines of defence in blue chip corporates and FinTech start-ups.

His experience spans many theatres of operation including U.K. banking, U.K. retail finance, European motor finance; global non-standard lending – and national and international payments.

More recently he has been involved in a PE-backed FinTech start-up that provides consumer litigation funding directly to law firms.

Rob is also an enthusiast when it comes to all things FinTech and in August 2020 he completed in his own time Oxford University’s Said Business School Fintech Programme.

Grant Cumbley

Chief Insurance Officer

Grant is a highly skilled insurance specialist with more than a decade of experience within the sector. Prior to ME Group, he was Head of Risk and Pricing at Affiniti Finance (a UK litigation funder) and lead the company’s business development.

As well as leading ME Group’s ATE insurance function, amongst other things, as Chief Insurance Officer he is responsible for managing underwriting partnerships and insurance policy development.

Thea Rogerson

Chief Risk Officer

Risk management specialist, Thea Rogerson, started her career working for the Royal Bank of Scotland – earning a place on the highly competitive Fast Track Management Scheme for the retail bank straight from university. She went on to hold various senior managerial roles in regulatory risk, external affairs, operational risk and incident management.

She ended her RBS career of 10 years working in incident management, leading on incident response including for one of the bank’s highest impacting and most publicised technology incidents.

Thea joined ME Group as a Risk Manager in June 2020 and has since revamped the risk management framework for the Group. She was promoted to Chief Risk Officer (CRO) in November 2021 and is responsible for leading the Group’s risk agenda.

David Stalker

General Counsel

David joined ME Group as General Counsel in February 2022. He is a senior solicitor with over 15 years qualified experience, including positions in house at listed companies and smaller niche entrepreneurial organisations.

In the four years prior to joining ME Group, David worked for a FTSE listed company where he was responsible for managing key areas of legal compliance and regularly deputising for the General Counsel and Company Secretary. Some of his previous roles include Senior Solicitor at EY Riverview Law, where he was also seconded as Legal Counsel to Unilever Plc and HSBC Holdings Plc. In David’s earlier career he worked in private practice where he also trained and qualified at a large London law firm (now CMS).

In his role as General Counsel at ME Group, David is to provide legal advice to the group as well as managing legal compliance and supporting effective governance.

Nigel Quinton

Non-Executive Director

Nigel joined ME Group in late 2019 and is an experienced finance professional that has held senior finance positions in building societies, wealth management and specialist lending firms. He has been the Chief Executive of two building societies and more recently has been advising financial services firms, including a new banking start-up, on financial and risk management. Nigel has held significant sector wide roles including Chairman of the Northern Association of Building Societies. His specialisms include all matters financial, governance, risk, lending, treasury and business strategy.

Trevor Nicholson

Non-Executive Director

Trevor joined the board of ME Group in August 2018 as a Non-Executive Director. He brings with him over 30 years’ experience of managing Compliance, Risk and Regulatory Affairs in leading blue-chip businesses. He is currently Interim Head of Compliance for FTSE 100 insurer; Admiral Group and his former roles include Sainsburys Bank, CPP Group plc, EMC Advisory Services and GE Capital/Santander Cards UK. He has significant compliance experience in areas such as CONC, ICOBS, COBS and Redress.

William Riordan

Non-Executive Director of ATE Insurance

William (Bill) is an experienced business professional with over 20 years as a consultant in Legal Services, with a particular focus on Legal Disbursement funding and After the Event Insurance (ATE). As a Non- Executive Director at ME Group, he provides independent oversight and constructive challenge to the Executive Team with a focus on the ATE insurance activities of the Group.

Having previously worked within ME Group as a Consultant in Legal Expense Insurance, Bill is familiar with the Group’s ambitious future plans.

His experience within the sector will help to shape the Group’s ATE function, aiming to propel the firm to further success and bring justice closer to more consumers.

Tim Zeiger

Non-Executive Director of Litigation Funding

Tim joined the Board in January 2022 as a Non-Executive Director. He brings with him over 20 years of experience as an investment professional focused on credit investments across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

He is the founder of Aboite Capital LLP and is focused on investing in and raising capital for asset-oriented companies. Areas of expertise include litigation finance, structured finance and real estate credit.

He previously worked for hedge funds including, Arena Investors, Ares Management and Värde Partners and began his career as an investment banker at Piper Jaffray.
