Job Purpose

The MEF Legal Auditor and Advisor will be integral to achieving success within the varied portfolio of regulated products and services for which MEF provide litigation funding or in relation to its outsourcing services. Working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment the Legal Auditor and Advisor will work as part of a small team initially, vetting the viability of claims to ensure they are eligible for litigation funding in accordance with stipulated criteria.

They will also audit and monitor claims that are being pursued within law firms to assess if the claims continue to have good prospects of success and that the law firm is pursuing the claims in line with the required standards to ensure the highest possible success rate. There will be a very high volume of claims which will require auditing from initial receipt of the claim from law firms through to the settlement of the claim. The Legal Auditor and Advisor will get the opportunity to work across this process, building new skills and continually learning new aspects of what is a highly sophisticated process.

As a Legal Auditor and Advisor, they will be responsible for reporting their findings from the vetting and auditing / monitoring of claims to the Head of Legal.

The Legal Auditor and Advisor will also be required to carry out research and report their findings in connection with various areas relating to Litigation Funding and legal claims such as new product types as well as assisting where required with any other legal research, the drafting of documentation, Instructing Counsel where necessary and assisting with policy, process and system requirements.

Role Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise and carry out the vetting of claims to assess if they are suitable for funding and carry out audit reviews, assessing the quality of file handling and probability of success to ensure security of funds in use.
  • Work confidently alone and as part of a team, with the ability to handle potentially difficult situations in a professional, tactful and confidential manner.
  • Strong research and analytical ability.
  • Ability to plan and meet tight deadlines not only in your own work but also to negotiate prompt responses from others to ensure a fast turnaround of reports.
  • Strong IT skills including the ability to use Excel to analyse data.
  • Strong documenting and report writing skills that can be adapted to different audiences.
  • Good commercial knowledge of financial services claims.
  • Conduct case reviews and reports relating to basis for claim, compliance with lending criteria and case progression.
  • Critically evaluate case progress and challenge knowledge gaps where necessary.
  • Carry out any other duties within capabilities as required by the needs of the business.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Claims handling and / or legal auditing experience required.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data.
  • Strong working knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Resilient, positive and clear-thinking in the face of ambiguity.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
